New Moon Movie Review- HUGE SPOILER ALERT!
By Twilight-Fan-77

Hey Folks,
Before I went to see New Moon the Movie I re read the book so I could write an accurate book to movie review. So after I finished reading the book I took all the important scenes from the book that should have been in the movie and put them on paper with a 0-5 number rating by each one. The scene in the movie got a 0 if it wasn’t in there and a five if it was perfect. I did this with Twilight the movie last year and it scored very low. Take a look at the ratings for New Moon and it’ll tell you exactly how much I liked or disliked New Moon.

1. Birthday Party 5
2. Ignorance (Edward) 4
3. Break Up 5
4. October, November 5
5. Port Angeles 5
6. Jacob’s Return 5
7. Riding the Bikes 5
8. Movies 5
9. Ignorance (Jake) 3
10. Confrontation (Jake) 5
11. Laurent in Meadow 5
12. Meet the Wolves 4
13. At Emily’s 5
14. Chasing Victoria 5
15. Cliff Diving 5
16. Alice’s Return 5
17. Edward’s Phone Call 5
18. “He’s Going to Italy” 4
19. Flight to Volterra 0
20. Race to Edward 0 5
21. The Kiss 4
22. Dealing with Volturi 5
23. The Truth 4
24. The Vote 5
25. The Proposal 4
26. The Epilogue 5

Total Score: 118/130

Twilight’s 40 out of 110 can’t even compare. New Moon was incredible! This has to be the greatest book to movie switch I’ve ever seen! Chris Weitz really captured the true essence of New Moon which Catharine Hardwick failed to do with Twilight. Now, a scene by scene analysis. If you have not seen the movie and do not wish to be spoiled, do not read any further.
The movie starts with the prologue. Technically Twilight had it too but it was just a voice over with a deer. That’s another thing I didn’t really like about Twilight. Kristin Stewart voice over narrated a lot of it. New Moon had a little bit of it, but in a different way, a way that made a lot more sense.
After the prologue, it goes right to the first dream Bella has, the one with the dream mirror. And it is beyond divine. I thought since it wasn’t super important they may have cut it, but they did not.
There was also a lot more of Charlie in this one, and Charlie seemed a lot more smart and in Bella’s life than in the first one, he sounded like a country bumpkin, no offence, but it’s true. He sounded a lot more perceptive in New Moon. He gives Bella her presents and speaks to her, which we don’t see in the book.
In the scene at school the humans get a few lines in as well, and Eric seems a lot more fit for Angela. I’m still mad that Ben’s character isn’t in it at all, but Eric was a lot better in this one. And Edward actually kisses her in the parking lot, but it has a few sexual sounding sighs, which kind of made me want to hurl, but wasn’t as bad as the steamy make-out session in the first one.
Alice gives Bella a dress to wear, which is a nice effect, and Jasper, you get to see his powers in action, which is kind of cool. And Edward recites Shakespeare, and Rob Pattinson isn’t actually horrible at it, which is nice. Although they watch Romeo and Juliet in class, which is sad.
Then there is the birthday party scene. Which is exquisite in every way shape and form. Bella gets a paper cut and Jasper attacks her, or tries. And Rob actually got the proper facial expression, which was a definite plus. Carlisle stitched her up and they talk about the whole soul loss thing. Although Edward’s mother is not mentioned, I was so enraptured by Carlisle’s monologue I hardly noticed.
And then right after Edward takes her home (and does not stay with her that night) it cuts to him skipping school and then comes the break up scene. No space in between birthday party and break up. I think they could have at least made it seem like the space of a few days before they break up, but that is a minor detail.
THE BREAK UP SCENE! Chris, I take my hat off to you sir, it was phenomenal with many of Steph’s actual lines in there, which made me cry. My mascara ran down my face as I sobbed through the whole break up and then Bella running after Edward. And then Sam rescues her, all in perfect order and sync.
And the whole dramatic October, November, December, January thing, sheer brilliance, he did a circle around shot on Bella staring out her window as the months passed. Kristin, I must give you props here. I had my doubts for you as a Bella in Twilight, but you really proved yourself in New Moon. So happy you actually read the book this time my dear.
And when Bella and Jessica go to Port Angeles, Jess has this ridiculous monologue which made me laugh, which was great. And then we get our first appearance of the Edward hallucination. I have to admit, when I first heard there would be visuals, I was a little disappointed, but it really didn’t take away from it at all. And then Bella actually took a ride on this one guys motorcycle, I don’t think Bella really would have done that, but it was still a good shot.
And Bella doesn’t get the bikes from one of the kids at her school, she gets them at the dump, but again, it didn’t take away from the scene. Jacob was really her ray of sunshine. Oh, and by the way, all throughout the movie while Edward is away, Bella narrates her thoughts as letters to Alice, which she tries to send through email, but the address is never right. She doesn’t just randomly narrate; it has some rhythm and rhyme to it. Taylor Lautner is…beyond words. The perfect Jacob.
And riding the bikes…was very brilliant. It had the hallucinations and the crash. And Taylor taking off his shirt *hyperventilation* I am a shameless fan girl and proud of it.
The time at the movies…I liked it a lot because Mike and Jacob both were claiming the armrests and Bella had her hands in her lap. And Mike got sick. Tee hee, liked that a lot. Only we never see the Rabbit finished, which makes me very sad. Jacob has a very sentimental talk with Bella about his promise, which made good on Stephenie’s version, which made me incredibly happy.
And Jake ignoring her, wasn’t a huge thing, but it was there. We saw a lot more of Harry Clearwater and he actually got lines in this one, which I thought was great because he was hilarious!
And the confrontation where Bella goes and tells Jake off, takes place with Taylor (without his horrible wig, thank God) standing shirtless in the rain. I almost fainted. They really went at each other and Taylor’s facial expressions were viciously good.
And Bella finding the meadow, I actually like how they made it completely dead, where as in the book it’s grass and it’s alive, but in the movie everything is dead. Just like her. It was a very good image. And Laurent was awesome! Edi really captured the emotions, that he really does feel bad for killing Bella but believes it is right to save her from Victoria’s wrath. And then the huge wolves come out. It is awesome, they look so much better in their completed form!
And when Bella tries to confront him about being a werewolf, she punches Paul who explodes. It is not in the book, but it adds to the action factor. It was a very good movie punch FYI. And then the Jacob wolf and the Paul wolf fight, which is awesome
The actress for Emily is perfect. She is exactly as I imagined her and her and Sam have an obvious connection, which really adds. Jared and Embry are very good and the muffins that Emily makes look delicious.
This movie shows the werewolves hunting down Victoria and they have Harry die of a heart attack because Victoria almost kills him when the Jacob werewolf attacks her.
And the cliff dive. Genius. Bella talks to the Edward hallucination and then jumps, not all slow motion and dramatically, but realistically. And she gets pushed under by the currents and sees Victoria.
And just before Bella and Jacob kiss in the car, Jacob gets a whiff of Alice, and has a freak out. Bella goes inside and flicks on the light and Alice is standing right in front of her, and freaks her out. It’s actually funny. She returns and is not even there for a full day before Jacob shows up and they have a confrontation, which is very funny to watch little Alice against muscled, shirtless Jacob.
And then Jake tries to kiss her again, and I think their lips actually touch for one second before the phone rings. And there is no Carlisle disguise. Jacob ruthlessly tells him Charlie is planning a funeral and then hangs up.
It cuts to Edward in a small room in South America, crushing the cell phone in his hand before turning to leave with an expression of agony on his face. One prop for Rob.
“He’s going to Italy.” Was not as dramatic as I had hoped. Bella didn’t faint (sad face) and Jacob only had a few harsh words. There was no argument whether Bella would go to Italy or not, she just got in the car with Alice.
The airplane on the way to Volterra was not in there. Makes me kinda sad, cause it was a little important, but not a huge deal.
The race to Edward was inspired, because it cut between the yellow 911 Porsche and Edward asking the Volturi to kill him.
Bella gets out once inside the city. And there is a little slow motion here, which is disappointing, but not horrible. One little girl actually sees Edward glitter, but just when she is about to tell her parents Bella shoves him in the shadows. The glitter effect is actually better in this one, it doesn’t look like someone dropped Rob into a vat of glue before showering him in craft glitter, and it actually looks like diamonds.
The Kiss. More sexual sounding sighs. But still cute. And then it started to say “No, no no no!” and my best friend told me to shut up. Because he started to confess to her that it was all a lie. That he left her because he loved her. He began The Truth in Italy! But he didn’t do it all. So I could breathe again. Only she believed him, didn’t put up any fight. And Edward didn’t quote Romeo “Death, that hath sucked the honey of thy breathe, has had no power yet upon thy beauty.” Which I was really looking forward to.
And enter the Volturi in all their glory. Jane, oh Jane, Dakota Fanning made you deliciously creepy. They couldn’t have picked a better actress. Not as young as I pictured her, but still good. And Aro and his brothers were exquisite. There was an Edward versus Felix and Demitri versus Alice battle, which was awesome. And Edward did fall power to Jane’s torture. In which Kristin Stewart had her only facial expression change in the whole movie. Her voice was appropriate with her lines, but her face stayed in the same depressing grimace. Which was good for most of the movie, but bad for some points. But Alice saved the day, as per always. I love Alice, she is my favorite.
The Truth. I told my friend if they messed it up, I would sue. Sure, they did half of it in Italy but it wasn’t terrible. Although my favorite quotes from that book are almost all in that chapter, and none of the lines get said. And the moonless night metaphor was not used. *pouts* grr, but still. Charlie had his say, and it all turned out alright.
The vote was very good, perfect actually. We even got in Rosalie’s apology, which was an unexpected plus. Not a lot to say about it in all it’s glory.
And then Jacob stepped in front of Edward’s car. Which made me laugh. He could have died if Edward had just stepped on the gas. But they got out in the woods, and Charlie never got word of Bella’s motorcycle, pity. But Edward did apologize. Which was nice, but it lead to Jacob turning into a werewolf and trying to attack Edward, but Bella steps in front and said. “You can’t hurt each other without hurting me.” Which is kind of self absorbed, if you think about it, but it works. Jacob runs off.
The proposal. It could have been better. They are in the woods, where Jacob could possibly have heard them. And the line goes. “If you want me to change you, you just have to meet one condition.” “What?” “Marry me Bella.” THE END! Yeah, I couldn’t believe it either. They cut one of my favorite lines. “But I’m only 18!” “Well, I’m nearly 110, it’s time I settled down. Would this have gone better if I had had time to get a ring?” “NO, no rings!” I miss that line.
Well, overall, a joyously good movie. I enjoyed it immensely and plan on going at least twice more. And will buy the DVD they day it is released.

Well, comment and I would love to hear your opinions on the movie!
